About Us A private non profit organization, Square One receives funding from public agencies along with donations from private sector businesses and individuals, allowing us to provide education and care along with transportation, all at low costs to parents. Additionally we are able to provide tuition assistance for some families. Founded in 1883 to provide care for children of working parents, we have evolved and expanded over the years. Our programs include both center and home based childcare as well as Parenting Works, a program that provides parent education, support and training through groups, home visitation and case management.
Programs at our centers vary depending on the age and development of enrolled children, but always focus on providing opportunities for children to grow strong cognitively, emotionally, socially and physically. Our home based childcare program, Close to Home, provides care in smaller settings within neighborhoods. Providers receive training and ongoing support from Square One, and programs are designed and carried out with our oversight. Through Kid Stop, we provide before and after school care for elementary school aged children in school and center settings. Kid Stop is learning focused and includes a physical fitness element through Square One's Go Fit program. Professional assistance offered through Parenting Works includes case management for families, help in creating and managing household budgets, training in how to shop for groceries with a focus on nutrition and stretching dollars, and education in positive parenting techniques. Square One is fully licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. |

Square
One operates four children's centers within the city of Springfield and
one in Holyoke. Centers open between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. and remain
open as late as 5:30 p.m. for the convenience of working parents.
